Project Reflection:
What I learned: In this project I learned that after four years, I am still really passionate about teaching project-based learning. I know that getting students to understand how we operate is not easy, and that I need to re-evaluate how I did so. This project helped me break down the overall essential idea of PBL and it led to some great conversation and discussion. Employability Skills: In this project I demonstrated the use of effective communication, time management, and facilitating. As for effective communication, I've continually tried to better my skills when it comes to introducing the PBL concept to new students. I'm very passionate about the topic and can sometimes be overwhelming when speaking with students about the program, and this time I tried to give clear instruction, but not overload students with information. My time management skills were valuable in this project as I only had two days to work on it during school hours. The rest was done at home or brainstorming in my spare time. I demonstrated the skill of facilitation in multiple ways through leading discussion and even trying to facilitate better learning and understanding of the process. I didn't do this in August, thus at semester I decided I needed to take a different approach. I am trying to streamline the beginning of the process and I feel this is a great way to do so. I will take the students feedback and adjust for next year. Strengths: My strengths for this project a are by far my prior knowledge of PBL and being able to take students feedback and change the approach in which I introduce PBL. I believe being able to reflect and change is what makes an employee stronger and by far more well-rounded. Weaknesses: My weakness in this project, and I hate to say it, was motivation. I was under a time crunch, and with the holiday break, I found it hard to stay motivated to work on it at home. However, I knew I had to complete it before school started and I was able to set goals and set aside other back to school items to be completed until I finished the project. |
